Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd and the club announced on Monday they have come to an agreement regarding an extended multi-year contract extension, following his third season leading the squad. Kidd, 51, recently finished up as head mentor.
Kidd holds an overall winning record as coach of Dallas: 140-106 (.569) in regular season games and 13-11 (.542) in playoff games; after Darvin Ham was dismissed, Kidd had even been mentioned as potential candidates to lead that franchise’s rebuild effort.
According to various NBA betting sites, the Mavericks currently hold fifth-best odds to claim their championship title, with Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Oklahoma City Thunder all showing stronger chances.

In two of his three seasons as coach for Dallas Mavericks under Jason Kidd’s guidance (52 wins in 2021-22 season and 50 victories during 2023-24), as well as multiple playoff series wins and making an appearance in Western Conference finals (2022).
Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont expressed their joy for having Kidd continue leading their team throughout his contract extension period. “Our organization looks forward to having him continue leading our squad into the coming years with such an eminently worthy contract extension,” Dumont stated.
Jason Kidd led our team to two playoff appearances over three seasons and we look forward to his leadership in continuing to build and expand this already great franchise.”
Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd won three playoff series as head of organization; Luka Doncic may become eligible for supermax status next summer.
“Jason has long been one of my friends, and there could not be anyone more qualified or prepared than him to lead our team going forward,” stated general manager Nico Harrison.
“Jason brings with him an extensive background as an NBA Champion Hall-of-Famer player that cannot be replicated. His experience and expertise is irreplaceable and have won him the trust and admiration of our players and many in the league alike. I look forward to working alongside him as we build upon the culture he helped establish during his tenure as head coach.”
Luka Doncic, Dallas’ five-time All-Star guard and one of its key contributors has also been an instrumental factor in their success. Doncic set a remarkable mark during regular season play by becoming only the second NBA player ever to register 75 career triple-doubles; doing it in 392nd career game!

“To build an incredible team,” Jason Kidd answered my query with this answer:
“Patience, time and having the right people.” Incorporating each one slowly is important; once found they should stay together as much as possible: this group has shown so much promise already… so now comes time for growth: pic.twitter.com/KvlVyV7U2d
— Landon Thomas (@sixfivelando) May 5, 2024 Oscar Robertson currently leads all players with 182 games required to rack up 75 triple-doubles; Luka Doncic became just 25 years and 26 days old to reach that mark, behind only Robertson at 24 years and 27 days.
Doncic also set an NBA record by recording seven consecutive 20-point triple doubles – matching Michael Jordan (1989) and Robertson (1961) as having had this achievement.
Doncic would become eligible to sign a five-year, $367 million supermax extension starting in 2025; to do so he first needs to make All-NBA First Team this season; such a contract would pay him $73.4 million annually in salary.
Four-time All-NBA member Dirk Nowitzki is earning $40.04 million this season due to a five-year, $215.16 million contract signed with Dallas Mavericks back in 2021.
