Odell Beckham Jr.’s career with the New York Giants has reached another checkpoint: the wide receiver is on the club’s initial 53-man roster, according to NBC Sports. The decision keeps Beckham’s second tour with the Giants going beyond Sunday.
The Giants made Beckham their first-round pick in 2014, and he stayed with the club until a 2018 trade sent him to the Browns. He later played for the Rams, Ravens and Dolphins. An ACL tear kept him out for the 2022 season, and he was out of the league last year.
Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reported that Beckham had secured a place on the roster. Head coach John Harbaugh had indicated after the Giants’ final preseason game that Beckham had done enough to make an NFL roster. Harbaugh was less definitive the next day when asked whether the wide receiver had made the Giants’ 53-man roster.
The report places Beckham among the players retained as the team forms its initial group. Calvin Austin’s torn ACL likely helped strengthen Beckham’s position on the roster. There had also been speculation about whether Darius Slayton could leave before the deadline for setting the initial roster. For Beckham, the decision represents a continuation with the organization where his NFL career began.
