RawNews publishes two different things, and it matters which one you are reading. Every page tells you.
The wire
The wire points you at reporting done by other newsrooms. We read a large number of sources continuously and link the stories worth your time, with the link going straight to the outlet that did the work. We don’t reproduce their articles and we don’t try to keep you here — the headline goes where it says it goes.
RawNews articles
Articles published here carry the RawNews Desk byline. Each one is a rewrite of a single report by a named news publication, and drafting is AI-assisted. We say so plainly because it is true: a language model writes the draft from that source report, and the finished article names the publication whose reporting it rests on and links to the original.
This is not original newsgathering and we do not present it as such. If you want the reporting itself, follow the link — it is in every article.
What happens before an article publishes
Automated validation compares every draft against the report it was written from. Quotations must match the source character for character. Every number, date, name and organisation must appear in the source. Every factual sentence must map to the specific source passages that support it. A draft that fails any of these checks is rejected outright rather than patched up.
Where a person is required
Stories involving children, sexual violence, suicide, graphic material or anonymous accusations are held for human review and never publish automatically.
Other stories, including routine crime and court coverage, can publish without a person reading them first. We would rather say that than imply an editor sees everything. Where a story involves an arrest, a charge or an allegation, it is written as an allegation — nobody on this site is guilty of anything until a court says so.
What we don’t do
We don’t publish an article we haven’t checked against its source, we don’t dress a rewrite up as our own reporting, and when we get something wrong we correct it in public and say what changed.
Corrections
If we’ve published something inaccurate — in an article or in a headline pointing at someone else’s work — tell us at [email protected]. We’ll look at it the same day. Our corrections policy explains how we handle them.
Ownership and funding
RawNews is privately owned, with no outside investors and no political backers.
We intend to fund the site with advertising. No advertising is running on RawNews yet. When it is, it will be served programmatically: we will not choose which ads appear, advertisers will have no say in what we publish, and no advertiser will see a story before it runs.
