Wrexham are closing in on a deal to bring Wales striker Nathan Broadhead to the Stok Cae Ras from Ipswich, with the transfer potentially rising to £10 million.
Although the upfront payment will be significantly less than that figure, the 27-year-old’s move is set to comfortably eclipse Wrexham’s existing transfer record.
Broadhead, who can operate across the forward line, is entering the final 12 months of his contract with Ipswich.
Since actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took ownership of the club in 2021, Wrexham have repeatedly pushed their spending limits.
Their current record fee, reportedly more than £3m, was set just last month when they signed Lewis O’Brien from Nottingham Forest.
Broadhead will become the ninth new arrival of the summer for the North Wales club, who were promoted from League One last season.
He will follow in the footsteps of fellow Welsh internationals Danny Ward and Kieffer Moore in joining Wrexham.
Other summer signings include forwards Josh Windass and Ryan Hardie, defenders Conor Coady and Liberato Cacace, and midfielders George Thomason and O’Brien.
Born in Bangor, Broadhead was once part of Wrexham’s youth setup before beginning his professional career at Everton.
He joined Ipswich permanently in 2023 after loan spells with Burton Albion, Sunderland, and Wigan Athletic.
Last season, he scored twice in 18 Premier League games under manager Kieran McKenna.
On the international stage, Broadhead has found the net twice in 14 appearances for Wales, with his first goal coming on his debut against Croatia in 2023.
