‘We are playing well’ says Amorim as Man Utd face Chelsea

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says his side are playing much better than last season despite their continued poor form in the Premier League.

United have four points from their opening four games and go into the weekend in 14th place in the table.

Only Manchester City (8.5) have a higher expected goals total than Manchester United (8.3) so far in the Premier League this season, and Amorim hopes the return of Matheus Cunha this weekend can help them convert those chances against Chelsea.

“This is football and this is the club with more pressure maybe than any in the world,” he said.

“I think we are playing well between the boxes. We need to be more clinical. If you see the numbers of shots, the xG, these things are all good but if you don’t score, it doesn’t matter.

“We want to win. Last year I was very critical of the way we played but now I think we are playing very well until the boxes – defending and attacking.

“We need to be more aggressive in the boxes, more clinical. The rest I think we are improving and we are in a better place than last year.

“But we need to win. We lost against Arsenal and City. Here losing, especially in the beginning after last season, is a problem.

“To win more games we have to maintain the way we are playing but improve in the opponent’s box and our box. That has been the focus of the week, especially when you are playing Chelsea.”
