USDCHF Technicals: USDCHF trapped between 100-hour and 200-hour moving averages

The USDCHF gapped higher at the start of trading, pushing the pair above the 100-hour moving average (blue line on the chart). However, the upside momentum quickly stalled. The pair was unable to extend beyond Friday’s high near 0.7828, and sellers stepped in.

The failure above that high led to a move back below the swing area between 0.7812 and 0.7821, as well as a break back under the 100-hour moving average. Since then, the pair has been oscillating between the 100-hour MA above and the 200-hour MA below, with the 200-hour moving average currently near 0.7774.

Technically, this leaves the pair in neutral territory.

On Friday, sellers tried to assert control with a break below the 200-hour moving average, but the gap higher today allowed buyers to make their push back above the 100-hour moving average. That move also failed, leaving the pair trapped between the two key technical levels as buyers and sellers battle for near-term control.

What next?

The 100-hour and 200-hour moving averages now define the key boundaries for the pair.

A move back above the 100-hour moving average would shift the bias modestly in favor of the buyers, with traders then looking toward Friday’s high near 0.7828. A break above that level would give buyers more confidence and could open the door for further upside momentum.

On the downside, a break below the 200-hour moving average at 0.7774 would tilt the bias back in favor of the sellers. If that occurs, traders would likely look toward the recent swing lows, with the potential for a deeper correction lower.

For now, the battle between the 100- and 200-hour moving averages keeps the pair in a neutral holding pattern, with the next break outside that range likely to determine the next directional move.
