US Treasury Secretary Bessent welcomes lower stockmarket – says straight up is not healthy

US equity index futures have reopened for trade for the week. Globex opens at 6pm US Eastern time on Sunday evening.

Bessent has continued intervening in equity pricing, pushing markets lower with his weekend comments in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press”:

  • Bessent said he was “not at all” worried about the stock market
  • “I’ve been in the investment business for 35 years, and I can tell you that corrections are healthy. They’re normal. What’s not healthy is straight up”

  • “You get these euphoric markets. That’s how you get a financial crisis”

For traders, the enhanced volatility has presented enhanced opportunity!

As a ps, don’t forget the upcoming roll in contract dates. The Monday before the third Friday of an expiry month is the generally accepted roll date, although you can roll whenever you like. A reasonable alternative is to watch for the switch over in volumes. I’ll have more to come on this separately.
