NEW YORK—Iga Swiatek won the most traditional tennis tournament, Wimbledon, last month.

Now, the second-seeded Swiatek aims to win the Spectacle Slam.

Swiatek fended of Suzan Lamens 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 then discussed the challenge of winning the US Open, which can feel like a chaos championship for some competitors.

“Well, for sure it’s not going to be the calmest slam and the one that is, like, focused on players
that much, because it’s more focused on entertainment and the show,” Swiatek said. “So we kind of need to adjust to that and accept that. It’s always kind of tougher to be in a bubble here.”

Swiatek said she accepts each Slam comes with its own character.

“But that’s just the way it is,” Swiatek said. “That’s why slams are different, and some people like it; some people not.”

The 2022 US Open champion will face Anna Kalinskaya for a fourth round spot.

The 29th-seeded Kalinskaya overcame eight double faults in a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Yulia Putintseva on Court 12.
