The whole Trump-Powell saga is just noise as it’s highly unlikely that Powell either leaves or gets fired due to the huge negative economic implications.
It’s not the first time a Fed Chair goes under such political pressure and it’s a great thing that the Fed remains independendent. Without independence, inflation expectations would de-anchor and the economic consequences would be grim.
