Ukrainian President Zelenskyy: Work on security guarantees should be accelerated

Ukraine Pres. Zelenskyy

  • Work on security guarantees should be accelerated.

  • He reported having a good meeting with U.S. Envoy Kellogg.

  • Ukraine values U.S. readiness to be part of its security architecture.

  • Zelenskyy and Kellogg discussed how to exert pressure on Russia to hold “real talks” aimed at ending the war.

What I read from Trump’s comments yesterday was US security guarantees, were behind (how far behind is unknown) that of NATO. He commented that Putin did not like Zelinskyy. Indications are that Trump is not a fan of Zelenskyy either.

Meetings with the envoy are ongoing but the big meeting with Trump and Putin was a dud, it did not lead to a ceasefire. It did not lead to a meeting, bilateral or trilateral.

Moreover, increased sanctions on Russian oil is not a topic. Trump also criticized Ukraine for damage to a Russian pipeline to Hungary.

The optics to me are not great.
