Trump is due to announce his next tariff hit on April 2. He is still acting all coy:
- maybe tomorrow night, Wednesday you will see tariff detail
- we are going to be nice very comparison to other countries
- in some cases maybe substantially lower
Earlier:
The lack of clarity from Trump is hitting main street businesses hard. Trying to make business investment decisions with policy made on a whim is troubling. Should you build the factory? Should you develop products for exports that might be hit by revenge tariffs offshore? And so on. As traders, where we can get in and out at the click of a mouse, we sometimes forget the real world implications of poor policy processes.
More:
- tariffs will be “reciprocal” to other nations
- tariffs will be “lower than what they’ve been charging us”
- “Relatively speaking, we’re going to be very kind”
