The New York Giants entered the offseason with a big need for a quarterback.
However, after winning in the regular-season finale, they wouldn’t have a chance to get one of the top two prospects at the position in the 2025 NFL Draft, at least on paper.
That, plus the alleged uncertainty regarding Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll’s future with the organization, may have prompted them to go after Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson in free agency.
With that in mind, some believe that Shedeur Sanders will no longer be in play at No. 3 for the Giants.
Considering that, legendary head coach Tom Coughlin shared his prediction for his former team’s approach to the event.
Talking on “The Pat McAfee Show,” the Super Bowl-winning head coach predicted that the Giants would just go with the best player available.
“The way the Giants have always operated is best-player-available, and the thing that has to happen in a draft anytime is you can’t reach for somebody. You can’t reach for a player who does not belong in that position,” Coughlin said.

If the Browns take Travis Hunter, that means that Coughlin thinks they will go with Abdul Carter, and vice versa.
Positional value helps quarterbacks like Shedeur Sanders be considered for the top selections, but that doesn’t mean they’re the best prospects.
More than that, it’s hard to believe the Giants will take a quarterback in the first round after spending big bucks to add veterans to the position in the offseason.
The Giants can do it in a variety of ways, and at No. 3, they’re guaranteed to have a shot at either Hunter or Carter if the Tennessee Titans take Cam Ward.
This team is still far behind, but they can land an absolute stud on Thursday night.
