The major US indices are ending the day with mixed results, but were down for the month of March:
A snapshot of the major indices at the end of day shows mixed results:
- Dow industrial average rose 417.86 points or 1.00% at 42001.76
- S&P index rose 30.91 point or 0.55% at 5611.85.
- NASDAQ index fell -23.70 points or -0.14% at 17295.29.
- Russell 2000 fell -11.36 points or -0.56% in 2011.91.
For the trading month, all the indices fell:
- Dow fell -4.20%
- S&P fell -5.75% its worst month since December 2022
- Nasdaq fell -8.21%, its worst month also since December 2022
For the year (1Q):
- Dow -1.28%
- S&P -4.59%
- Nasdaq -10.42%
So the 1st quarter is in the books and there not a lot to write home about as fears weigh on the market including:
- Stagflation
- Higher inflation from tariffs
- Slower job market
- Q1 earnings coming lower
