The S&P and NASDAQ indices close at record levels. The Dow industrial average lags

The sharply higher than expected PPI inflation data today, did not deter buyers in the broader S&P and NASDAQ indices. Nor did they rise in yields with the 10 year yield just below 4.5% at 4.470%, and the 30 year yield above 5% at 5.04%

Both indices are closing at record levels. The NASDAQ index closed above its high closing level from May 11 at 26274.13 (it closed that 26402.34), while the S&P index close about his high closing level from May 11 at 7412.85 (it closed at 7444.26).

For the Dow industrial average, a closed lower on the day and also comfortably below is high closing level from May 10 at 50,188.14. The high-priced today stay below the 50,000 level at 49,752.97. The Russell 2000 was also closed near unchanged on the day.

The final numbers for the indices are showing:

  • Dow industrial average closed down -68.01 points or -0.14% at 49697.96
  • S&P index rose 43.27 points or +0.58% at 7444.24
  • NASDAQ index rose 314.14 points or 1.20% at 26402.34
  • Russell 2000 rose 1.101 points or 0.04% at 2843.93
