Texans Met With Interesting CB During Local Prospect Day

The Houston Texans’ scouting department is working overtime as draft season heats up.

While national attention focuses on first-round possibilities, it’s often the diamonds in the rough that can transform a good draft class into a great one.

One such prospect recently turned heads during the Houston Texans’ local prospect day.

Oregon cornerback Kam “Speedy” Alexander lived up to his nickname, impressing scouts with his combination of athleticism and coverage skills.

According to insider reports, Alexander made quite an impression.

“Oregon @oregonfootball corner Kam ‘Speedy’ Alexander (Manvel) (4.48 speed, 41.5 vertical, 11-1 broad jump, jumps would have been second best at #NFLCombine at position, 4.15 short shuttle, 6.75 3-cone drill), participated in #Texans local prospect day. All-conference @UTSAFTBL before transferring, previously @BearkatsFB. All-district at Manvel @KPRC2SPORTS.” KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson wrote.

Alexander’s journey to this point has been marked by consistent improvement and production. The 5-foot-11, 183-pound cornerback made a name for himself at UTSA before transferring to Oregon.

During his standout season with the Roadrunners, he racked up 34 tackles, 17 pass breakups, two interceptions, and a sack.

His performance earned him first-team all-conference honors in the AAC, along with Defensive MVP recognition in UTSA’s 2023 Frisco Bowl victory over Marshall.

Since arriving at Oregon, Alexander has continued to shine. His spring practice numbers tell the story of a shutdown corner – holding quarterbacks to a meager 65.7 passer rating and just a 48% completion rate when targeting his coverage area.

Oregon’s coaching staff has been particularly impressed with his ball skills and closing speed.

With the NFL increasingly valuing versatile defensive backs who can match up with today’s dynamic receivers, Alexander’s stock could continue to rise as the draft approaches.
