The Houston Texans went into the offseason looking for some veteran cornerback help to serve as depth behind Derek Stingley Jr. and Kamari Lassiter.
It was supposed to be on the way after they signed veteran Ronald Darby this offseason, but after some surprising news, things have changed.
“Another retirement: Veteran CB Ronald Darby, who played 10 seasons and helped the [Philadelphia] Eagles win Super Bowl LII, informed the Houston Texans that he is retiring from the NFL, per sources,” ESPN insider Adam Schefter wrote on X.

Darby played for six teams, most notably winning a ring with the Eagles in Super Bowl LII.
He had six of his eight career interceptions during his time with the Eagles (2017 through 2019), with the other two coming as a rookie with the Buffalo Bills.
He hasn’t picked off a pass in the past five years despite appearing in 61 games.
Houston is again lacking depth in the secondary, unless one of its supplementary pieces can step up and provide Stingley and Lassiter with some support.
It’s a surprising announcement from Darby, but it’s admirable when a player decides to bow out on his own terms.
