The New England Patriots‘ offense left plenty to be desired in their first game of the season.
Quarterback Drake Maye looked overwhelmed by the Las Vegas Raiders’ defense and made bad decisions more often than not.
That’s where a veteran wide receiver can help.
Asked how he can support the second-year pro, Stefon Diggs shared his thoughts.
“As a receiver, you just wanna have an open dialogue, especially with a young guy. He can play at a high level, so just being there for him consistently. I think a lot of positive reinforcement rather than like ripping a guy would be obviously helpful. I think he could take it. I feel like he’s a tough guy, too, as well. He’s not a softy or nothing. I would never say that,” Diggs said.

Maye showed glimpses of strong play as a rookie.
He’s built like a prototypical modern quarterback, is someone who can make plays with his legs if needed, and also boasts a strong arm to attack down the field.
There were concerns about whether he was ready for the NFL last season, as he looked quite raw in college.
He cleared some hurdles, but the lack of talent around him was evident.
Now, with an improved supporting cast, his flaws might be more noticeable.
Of course, it was just one game, and it’s never wise to count out a quarterback after a handful of starts.
Hopefully, Daye will build more chemistry with Diggs and his other receivers as the season goes on, and the coaches will put him in a position to succeed.
In Week 2, he’ll get to face a team coming off a terrible defensive performance, as the Patriots visit the Miami Dolphins.
