Spanish officials have proposed a €4,000 fine for a Real Oviedo supporter accused of directing racist abuse toward Barcelona forward Marcus Rashford.
The incident occurred during Barcelona’s 3-1 win at Real Oviedo on September 25.
According to a statement released by Spain’s government anti-violence commission on Thursday, the fan was allegedly heard making a racial slur in Spanish toward the England international.
“La Liga detected the images on social media and filed a complaint with the National Police” the statement said.
“Subsequently, analysis of footage from the stadium’s Organizational Control Unit (UCO) cameras allowed for the identification of the alleged perpetrator.
“The processing of this proposal will be contingent upon the final decisions made in the criminal proceedings.”
A final decision on the case has yet to be confirmed.
Rashford, 27, is spending the season on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United and featured for nearly the entire match against Oviedo.
The forward has faced racist abuse on several occasions during his career. In 2021, a man in England was jailed for sending racist messages to Rashford on social media following his missed penalty in the Euro 2020 final shootout.
