S&P closes higher for the eighth consecutive day

The major US indices are closing higher. The S&P index is up for the eighth consecutive day. The NASDAQ index is the biggest gainer for the day:

  • Dow industrial average rose 83.60 points or 0.21% at 40752.96
  • S&P index rose 35.08 points or 0.63% at 5604.14
  • NASDAQ index rose 264.40 points or 1.52% in 17710.74

The small-cap Russell 2000 rose 11.74 points or 0.60% at 1975.86.

The gains were led by Meta which rose $23.21 or 4.23% to $572.21 . The shares of Microsoft also surged by $30.14 or 7.63% to $425.40.
