Son dubs Europa League final as ‘biggest day of my life’

Tottenham skipper Heung-Min Son has labelled the upcoming Europa League final against Manchester United as the most significant moment of his career.

Following a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa on Friday – their 21st loss this campaign – Tottenham find themselves languishing in 17th place in the Premier League with just 38 points.

Their league form has dashed any hopes of qualifying for Europe via domestic standings, and with all three teams below them already relegated, Spurs can count themselves very lucky that they have remained in the top flight.

Now, their only route into next season’s Champions League lies in beating a similarly struggling Manchester United side – currently sitting one spot above Spurs in 16th – in the Europa League final on Wednesday in Bilbao.

Reflecting on their loss at Villa Park, Son said: It’s a very disappointing result and a very poor season.

But at the end of the day, we can win a trophy, that’s what we’re all looking for.”

Victory in Bilbao would not only mark the end of Tottenham’s 17-year wait for a major trophy but would also secure Son his first-ever title with the club after ten years of service.

Looking ahead to the final, the South Korean forward added: Wednesday will be the biggest day of my life. It will be great. We will be excited, and I hope we can make history.

With a season full of disappointments hanging in the balance, Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou have one last chance to salvage something special and turn the tide on the narrative that Spurs will forever operate without winning silverware.
