Sergio Ramos closing in on securing stake in Spanish side Sevilla

Sergio Ramos says progress is being made on a potential takeover of Sevilla, with an update expected in the coming weeks.

The former Real Madrid and Spain defender is leading a consortium backed by investment group Five Eleven Capital, targeting a deal to acquire his boyhood club.

“I think there will be some news in a few months, or even weeks, and we hope it will be the news we’re all hoping for,” Ramos said.

“Everything is going well.”

Ramos Sevilla takeover bid gathers pace

Ramos, now 40, has been working on the proposed takeover since late 2025, with reports suggesting significant progress has already been made.

The project has generated optimism among Sevilla supporters, particularly after a difficult period both on and off the pitch.

Key figures connected to the club, including former sporting director Monchi, have voiced support for the initiative.

Sevilla struggles and LaLiga relegation battle

Sevilla’s recent form has only added urgency to the situation.

The club narrowly avoided relegation last season and are again battling near the bottom of LaLiga.

They have won nine and lost 15 of their 31 league matches this campaign, leaving them just two points clear of the drop zone with seven games remaining.

A change in ownership is viewed by many as a potential turning point after years of instability.

Ramos future linked to Sevilla move

Ramos has not officially retired following his departure from CF Monterrey in December.

“I’m feeling great,” he said. “I’m spending a lot of time with my family at the moment and am really enjoying it.”

However, if the takeover is completed, regulations would prevent him from continuing to play in Spain while holding a stake in the club.

That would likely force a decision on his playing future, either stepping away from the game or continuing his career abroad.

Ramos, a World Cup winner in 2010 and a long-time Sevilla academy product, remains closely tied to the club – and could soon play a major role in shaping its future off the pitch.
