The Seattle Seahawks set their quarterback future on a new path when they traded Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders, securing a third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft in return.
That selection turned into quarterback Jalen Milroe, landing in what many consider an ideal situation.
Unlike other rookie quarterbacks thrown into a starting role immediately, Milroe arrives with the luxury of development time.
Seahawks general manager John Schneider recently revealed the team’s approach to their new quarterback prospect.
“(Jalen Milroe) is a weapon, and we’re gonna develop (him) as a quarterback. Just going to accentuate his strengths and do what he does best as we go,” Schneider said, via SiriusXM NFL Radio.

This plan gives the Seahawks flexibility for their future.
With Sam Darnold operating on a year-to-year contract structure, Milroe can develop without the pressure of immediate expectations.
While Darnold holds the starting job for 2025, the competition should intensify heading into 2026.
Some NFL insiders suggest fans might see Milroe on the field sooner than expected, as offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak could develop specialty packages that showcase Milroe’s unique talents.
The rookie’s rushing ability jumps off the page, with 1,257 yards and an impressive 32 touchdowns on the ground over his final two seasons at Alabama, including 20 TDs in 2024.
Milroe was the fourth quarterback selected in this year’s draft, following Cam Ward, Jaxson Dart and Tyler Shough, and ahead of Shedeur Sanders.
