AC Milan secured a crucial 1-0 win over city rivals Inter Milan in the latest edition of the Derby della Madonnina, completing a league double over their neighbours for the first time since the 2011-12 season.
The only goal of the night arrived shortly before half-time at San Siro when Pervis Estupinan struck. It came less than a minute after Inter had passed up a golden opportunity at the other end.
Inter had looked the more threatening side during that spell and should have taken the lead when Henrikh Mkhitaryan found himself through on goal. However, his close-range effort was somehow repelled by Mike Maignan, who reacted instinctively to keep the scores level.
Moments later Milan broke forward and capitalised. Youssouf Fofana combined neatly in midfield before releasing Estupinan down the left. The wing-back surged forward and unleashed a powerful finish into the top corner, giving the hosts the lead.
The Nerazzurri came closest to a breakthrough early in the second half when Federico Dimarco was presented with a clear opportunity from inside the box but lifted his effort over the crossbar. It summed up a frustrating evening for the league leaders.
As the match entered its closing stages, Inter continued to push forward in search of an equaliser.
There was late drama in stoppage time when the ball found its way into the Milan net following a corner. The celebrations were quickly cut short after referee Daniele Doveri ruled that play had already been stopped before the ball crossed the line, ensuring the goal would not stand.
The result marks Inter’s first Serie A defeat since November 2025 but they remain in a strong position at the top of the table, seven points clear of their rivals.
Meanwhile, the victory offers Milan a timely boost as they attempt to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the campaign.
