Spurs were hoping to end a disappointing week on a high when they visited Everton in the Premier League.

Beaten 2-1 at home by Aston Villa the previous Sunday, Thomas Frank’s men had been fortunate to escape with a 0-0 draw at Monaco in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Everton were yet to lose in five matches at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium, including a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace there on October 5.
