The New England Patriots continue their focus on defense as the 2025 NFL Draft draws near, with Texas A&M edge rusher Shemar Stewart reportedly their latest target.
The promising first-round prospect recently met with the team, which adds to a growing pattern for the Patriots, who have already scheduled visits with premier edge defenders including Abdul Carter, Oluwafemi Oladejo and Nic Scourton.
“Texas A&M edge Shemar Stewart, whose Combine workouts helped him to be considered a top pick, has a visit today with the Patriots, source said. After New England, Stewart has the [San Francisco] 49ers and [Chicago] Bears,” NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport wrote on X.

Stewart made scouts take notice with his impressive physical profile and athletic testing.
Standing 6-foot-6 and weighing 291 pounds, he posted remarkable numbers at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, with his 4.59-second 40-yard dash, 40-inch vertical jump, and 10-foot-11 broad jump placing him among the elite edge rushers in this class.
While Stewart’s college production has sparked some debate among analysts, his potential remains undeniable.
At Texas A&M career, he accumulated 65 combined tackles, 4.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss.
The Patriots hold the No. 4 overall selection in the draft and appear determined to add a dynamic presence on the edge. Stewart’s blend of size, explosiveness and raw power makes him an intriguing option if they decide to trade back.
His ability to penetrate an offensive line and create consistent quarterback pressure could provide exactly what the New England defense needs moving forward.
With visits to the 49ers and Bears scheduled after his Patriots meeting, Stewart’s draft stock continues to rise as the draft approaches.
