Nick Wright Believes 1 QB Could Become Mac Jones

The Denver Broncos enter the 2025 season with significant expectations resting on second-year quarterback Bo Nix.

His rookie campaign showed promise, but questions remain about his ceiling and ability to elevate the franchise beyond modest success.

Analyst Nick Wright recently drew an intriguing comparison between Nix and Mac Jones during his “What’s Wright” podcast.

Wright highlighted several parallels between their early career trajectories that have raised concerns about Denver’s long-term outlook.

“My take going into the draft? Bo Nix was Mac Jones. Mac Jones in year one with the New England Patriots made a somewhat fraudulent Pro Bowl as an alternate. Bo Nix, check. The team won 10 games, kind of surprisingly, made the playoffs. Bo Nix, check. The team played the Buffalo Bills in round one, lost by four touchdowns. Bo Nix, check,” Wright said.

Wright questioned whether the Broncos can break through despite having Sean Payton as head coach.

He acknowledged that Nix possesses better athletic ability than Jones but pointed to a troubling pattern among quarterbacks with similar profiles.

The comparison extends beyond surface-level statistics. Both quarterbacks entered the NFL with strong supporting casts and experienced early team success.

However, Wright emphasized that winning meaningful games against elite competition remains the true test.

Nix showed improvement throughout his rookie season in decision-making and pocket mobility.

Those developments offer hope that he can avoid the limitations that have defined Jones’ career, which now has him as a backup with the San Francisco 49ers.

Wright’s central question focuses on whether Nix can evolve beyond being a steady but limited quarterback who struggles when the stakes rise.

Denver’s success this season will largely depend on Nix proving he can lead a deep postseason run rather than another early exit.
