The New England Patriots envisioned Mac Jones as their next franchise quarterback and the heir to Tom Brady’s throne when they selected him in the 2021 NFL Draft. But after a promising rookie campaign, he didn’t last long.

After a stint as a backup with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he made his way to the San Francisco 49ers this season and has revived his career by filling in admirably during Brock Purdy’s injury absence.

Now that Purdy is back, fans are wondering what Jones’ potential trade value could be this offseason. He has proven he is worthy of another shot as a full-time NFL starter, and with so many QB-needy teams around the league, one insider recently revealed a potential trade package for Jones.

“Albert Breer believes the 49ers could get a Day 2 pick in 2026 and possibly a conditional Day 3 pick in the 2027 draft for Mac Jones. Breer lists the Vikings, Dolphins and Cardinals as teams who could be interested in Jones,” Coach Yac wrote on X.

In nine games this season, Jones has thrown for 2,151 yards and 13 touchdowns with six interceptions. He also has completed 69.6 percent of his passes, and the Niners’ won five of his eight starts to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Jones is 27 years old and has one year left on his contract, so likely he wouldn’t be a costly investment unless his new team felt inclined to give him a lucrative extension. Surely, the Niners would love to keep him, as he has proven to be arguably the league’s best backup quarterback, but it looks like Jones might want to start somewhere.

He should, because he has been outstanding this season. Any team would be lucky to have him.
