New Zealand Q2 CPI 0.5% q/q (expected 0.6%) 2.7% y/y (expected 2.8%)

New Zealand inflation data for Q2 2025 a little lower than expected

more to come

0.5% q/q

  • expected 0.6%, prior 0.9%

2.7% y/y

  • expected 2.8%, prior 2.5%

CPI tradeables 0.3% q/q

  • expected 0.5%, prior 0.8%

CPI Non tradeables 0.7% q/q

  • expected 0.7%, prior 1.1%

Both the kiwi $ and NZ yields have dropped on this data. I mentioned earlier a lower CPI would weigh on the NZD, and that it should be a boost for NZ stocks.
