Combustible Corentin Moutet snapped his stick then pulled the plug in a Madrid meltdown today.

The left-handed Moutet was trailing compatriot Harold Mayot 6-3, 3-2 when the qualifier cracked a winner down the line.

Moutet wound up and splattered his racquet off the back wall, then picked it up and snapped the head incurring a code violation warning and point penalty as he fell into a 6-3, 4-2 hole.

As he walked toward his seat, Moutet paused to offer the mangled racquet to a fan, who seemed to decline it.

Then Moutet, who was apparently bothered by a back injury, walked to the chair and shook chair umpire Mohamed Lahyani’s hand and briefly clutched at his lower back. The chair umpire announced Moutet retired due to injury prompting a chorus of boos from Madrid fans.

It all added up to Mayot’s first career Madrid main-draw win and a second-round clas vs. 20th-seeded Francisco Cerundolo.
