Matthew Golden Given Notable Grade Through 4 Weeks

Matthew Golden was the Green Bay Packers’ first-round pick in the 2025 draft, and the team hopes he becomes a key offensive playmaker.

The expectations are steep, especially since Green Bay hadn’t drafted a first-round wide receiver in years.

Coming out of college, Golden’s speed and skill had fans excited about what he could do right away.

Through four games, he received a B- grade from Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon, who recently evaluated all first-round rookies.

“There was plenty of hype that the team’s first Round 1 receiver in years would quickly become the No. 1 guy, but Golden has yet to find the end zone while taking a back seat to Romeo Doubs. That said, he has caught nearly 80 percent of the passes thrown his way and has zero drops,” Gagnon wrote.

Target distribution and the Packers’ offensive scheme have influenced his opportunities, shaping his early contributions as the team balances established weapons and developing talent.

It’s a decent start, but the grade shows Golden still has work to do as he adapts to the pro game.

Among rookies making their first NFL impact, Golden has shown dependable hands and precise route running despite the lack of scoring plays.

His reception efficiency and overall reliability suggest a positive development trajectory moving forward.

His skill in creating separation and generating consistent yards after the catch will likely define his long-term role.

Broader Packers offensive issues, including inconsistent quarterback play and pass protection challenges, have influenced Golden’s production.

These factors can limit opportunities for explosive plays, making team performance a key determinant of his output.

As the season continues, enhanced chemistry and improved execution could translate into more scoring opportunities.

Golden’s early performance shows promise, and a larger role in critical offensive situations may emerge as Green Bay’s offense finds consistency.
