Green Bay Packers fans were hopeful when they saw Zach Tom in the starting lineup in Week 3.
Tom has been struggling with an oblique injury, which kept him out of the first two games of the season, but it seemed like he was well enough to play against the Cleveland Browns.
Unfortunately for Tom and the Packers, he only suited up for one play before heading to the sidelines for the rest of the game.
Thankfully, as Matt LeFleur recently indicated via reporter Rob Demovsky on X, Tom’s oblique injury didn’t necessarily get worse during his time on the field, and that it “wasn’t a setback.”
Packers coach Matt LaFleur said he doesn’t think Zach Tom did anything worse to his oblique injury but dropped out after one play because essentially it didn’t feel right. But MLF said it wasn’t a setback.

Thankfully for Tom and the Packers, they only have one more game before the Week 5 bye, which would give him more time to heal and to play to the best of his ability.
Falling to 2-1 wasn’t ideal, of course, but if the Packers can head into the bye going 3-1 if they beat the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, they can feel confident about themselves heading into the back half of the season.
They’ll get a scheduling break with several opponents after the break, including matchups with the Cincinnati Bengals and Carolina Panthers, but they have more challenging games on the horizon.
Having Tom and the rest of the offensive line back for the Philadelphia Eagles’ matchup in November will be crucial if they want any chance of taking down the defending champs, who are currently 3-0.
This team has looked like a top-tier unit when healthy, which is encouraging, so it will be a great sight to behold when everyone is back on the field.
