Major US stock indices close lower after weaker ISM data

The major US stock indices are closing lower on the day after weaker ISM data. This was the lowest level since May.

The final numbers are showing:

  • Dow industrial average -61.90 point or -0.14% at 44111.74.
  • S&P index fell -30.77 points or -0.49% at 6299.17.
  • NASDAQ index fell -137.03 point or -0.65% at 20916.55.

The small-cap Russell 2000 bucked the trend with a gain of 13.36 points or 0.60% at 2225.67.

Shares of Palantir rose 7.85% today after posting revenues that top $1 billion close beating expectations on the top and bottom lines.

Chips stocks move lower after present Trump hinted of tariffs sooner rather than later.

  • Broadcom fell -1.61%
  • Nvidia fell -0.97%
  • AMD (which will report shortly after the close) fell -1.40%)

Super Micro Computers announced earnings and revenues below expectations:

  • EPS $0.41 versus $0.45 expected
  • revenues by $0.8 billion versus expected $6.0 billion.

They did guide higher revenues of $33 billion versus expected $30.3 billion. Shares are trading down -12% in after-hours trading.
