Late day rally stalls out. Stocks close lower on the day

After a rally that saw both the S&P index and the NASDAQ index earlier declines, selling returned and the prices of the major indices are closing lower on the day.

Both the S&P and the Nasdaq index are closing below its 200 day MAs for the first time since May 2025. That is the bad news. The not so bad news is the broader indice are trading well above the lows for the day.

Looking at the closing levels.:

  • Dow -202.95 points or -0.44% the 46022.20
  • S&P index -18.22 points or -0.28% at 6606..49
  • NASDAQ index 61.73 points or -0.28% at 22090.69

At session lows, the Dow was down -491 points, the S&P was down -66.88 points and the Nasdaq was down -301.37.

For the NASDAQ index, the 200 day moving average comes in at 22237.70. For the S&P index its 200 day moving average comes in at 6619.05.
