Players needed to assert their collective voice and the PTPA lawsuit ensures it will be heard, says Nick Kyrgios.

Led by Novak Djokovic, investment banker Bill Ackman and Canadian Vasek Pospisil, the PTPA filed a lawsuit in the New York Federal Court and the United Kingdom and European Union on Tuesday.

The lawsuit claims that the ATP, WTA, and International Tennis Federation (ITF) are actively engaged in corrupt business practices that limit players’ ability to earn money and restrict their professional lives.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Kyrgios called the lawsuit filing a landmark day for players.

“I felt people knew something was going on behind the scenes for a long time,” Kyrgios told Sky Sports. “We wanted to do something like this for the future of tennis.

“I know the players and myself aren’t happy with the structures and everything that is going on in tennis at the moment.”

Former Wimbledon finalist Kyrgios said players have been calling for change and have now taken action to achieve it.

“There are over 100 pages doctrine that people can read for more information,” Kyrgios said. “I don’t want to go into all the details but I’ve been as involved as I can be with everything I’ve got going on.

“This will be a special moment in tennis, for sure. Things needed to change. It’s a big day for tennis.”

Wild card Kyrgios is scheduled to face American Mackenzie McDonald in his Miami Open opener on Wednesday.
