Key Dolphins Player Underwent Surgery This Offseason

It’s a pivotal season for the Miami Dolphins coming up, as this franchise has been knocking on the door of being a contender in the AFC for a few years and has proven to be incapable of taking the next step and beating great teams when it matters most.

While there is plenty of pressure on this team, the offense, at least on paper, looks like it should be as explosive as ever, though it will have to deal with the absence of a key player early in the campaign due to a recent surgery.

Head coach Mike McDaniel said Friday that backup running back Jaylen Wright had a minor procedure done on the leg injury he suffered recently, though it won’t threaten his long-term availability, and he could return at some point in September.

It’s encouraging that Wright wasn’t already placed on injured reserve, so it’s possible he’ll be out for just a few games.

It’s a big season for Wright to prove he is capable of being De’Von Achane’s primary counterpart in this backfield, and this injury came on the heels of an unspectacular preseason showing that saw him post just 19 yards on 13 carries.

He had 68 carries for 249 yards and no touchdowns as a rookie last season as he served in a depth role behind Achance and Raheem Mostert.

He’s also feeling the heat from rookie Ollie Gordon II, who has had a strong camp and ran for 126 yards and a touchdown in the preseason while showing plenty of power that would play well in a complementary role to the speedy Achane.

Hopefully, Wright can heal up and carve out a big role in this offense, because the team is going to need him.
