Kane nets 400th club goal as Kompany hails striker’s ‘complete’ performance in Der Klassiker

Harry Kane scored his 400th club goal as Bayern Munich continued their perfect start to the season with a 2-1 victory over Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

Bayern boss Vincent Kompany hailed Kane’s showing as a “complete performance” as they made it 11 consecutive victories in all competitions, equalling the German record set by Dortmund under Thomas Tuchel at the start of the 2015/16 campaign.

At the Allianz Arena, Kane continued his prolific recent form in front of goal, nodding in after 22 minutes to make it 12 league goals already this term, before Michael Olise doubled the lead with just over 10 minutes remaining after Jobe Bellingham failed to clear.

Julian Brandt made it an interesting last period when he halved the deficit on 84 minutes, but the hosts saw out the game to move five points clear at the top of the table.

Kane has now scored in every match he has featured in this term with the exception of one, Bayern’s 3-2 win over Augsburg is August, a game in which he provided two assists.

And his contributions were highlighted by his manager after the game.

“It was another complete performance by him [Kane] today,” said Kompany.

“Of course with his goal, he is and stays Harry Kane. But also in the build-up, in defending, tackling. A very complete performance.

“The other guys also did very well and spent a lot of energy, but Harry is in a very good phase at the moment. We’re all enjoying it”

Kompany also admitted Dortmund made life difficult for his team, but labelled his side “dangerous” throughout.

“Compliments to the team for winning the first eleven games – but I want to win the next eleven as well. And then the eleven after that,” Kompany said.

“You also have to compliment Dortmund. They deserved to get back into the game in the second half. Our first half was almost perfect, very dominant – we could have scored two or three more goals. In the second half, Dortmund fought, were aggressive, and in my opinion, we played too slowly.

“We lost our rhythm. Nevertheless, you don’t win a game like this without this cohesive team performance. It wasn’t easy in the second half, but we defended well and were always dangerous.

“That’s the key for me. You can have difficulties at times, but you have to remain dangerous, and that’s what we were.”
