Japan’s Economy Minister Kiuchi says a weak yen can push up CPI through import costs.

Well, yeah. to the extent that the importer doesn’t’ absorb the higher cost of the imported good/service this is correct. Its pretty basic stuff.

Japanese authorities are lobbing out the occasional comment aimed at verbal interevention to support the yen. This is one of the weaker attempts.
