Ja Morant’s Miami Home Purchase Fuels Trade Rumors – Basketball Insiders

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has added fuel to swirling trade chatter ahead of the Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline by buying a $3.2 million house in Miami. Records show the home in Miami-Dade County was bought on Dec. 23, 2025, just weeks before Morant’s name began rising on the league’s hottest rumor mill. Whether intentional or not, the purchase has captured intense fan and media attention.

Morant’s new place sits roughly 20 minutes from the Miami Heat’s arena, the Kaseya Center, and comes amid reports that the Heat have “emerged as an attractive option” for the All-Star guard. League insiders have linked Miami to Morant, though sources say talks have been “preliminary” and not yet serious.

Trade Rumors Gain Steam Around NBA

The Grizzlies are entertaining offers for the two-time All-Star guard for the first time in his career, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Teams such as the Heat, Sacramento Kings, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Milwaukee Bucks have shown some level of interest as Memphis fields potential trades.

Morant earlier denied a rift with Grizzlies coach Tuomas Iisalo and said he’d “live with it” if Memphis trades him. He also emphasized that reports of conflict between him and the coaching staff are overblown, calling external views “internet reports.”

The context around these rumors includes Morant’s absence from games since Jan. 2 due to a calf contusion. He’s played just 18 games this season, averaging 19 points and 7.6 assists while logging fewer minutes.

Why Miami Could Appeal to Morant

Sources suggest Morant respects Miami’s culture and head coach Erik Spoelstra. The Heat’s detail-oriented, structured environment could attract him, especially as he eyes potential future Team USA involvement. Morant also hopes to secure a max extension next summer.

However, the Heat have to navigate salary and roster constraints to make a deal happen. Achieving the right financial fit with Morant’s current contract — which runs through 2027-28 with escalating salaries — remains complex.
