Inter suffer injury setback ahead of key Roma test

Inter Milan are set to be without one of their most experienced players as they return to Serie A action against Roma.

The Nerazzurri confirmed on Wednesday that Matteo Darmian he suffered a strain of the soleus muscle in his right leg after playing in Inter’s friendly with Atletico Madrid in Libya.

Darmian is expected to be out for 10 days, meaning he will miss Saturday’s trip to the Stadio Olimpico. The former Manchester United defender has only made two appearances for the club so far this season, one in Serie A and one in the Champions League.

Inter are fourth in Serie A with 12 points from six games, while Roma are level on points with league leaders Napoli.

As such, the game could have a significant on Inter’s hopes of wresting the Scudetto from Napoli, who edged them to the title last season.

Darmian’s injury will also keep him out of the Champions League clash with Union Saint-Gilloise next Tuesday.

Inter have started their league phase campaign with wins over Ajax and Slavia Prague as they attempt to go one better after losing to Paris Saint-Germain in the final back in May.
