Every team in the NFL has now finalized its 53-man roster heading into Week 1 of the regular season, and it’s always one of the toughest times of the year, as many comeback and underdog stories of players working to make a roster officially come to an end.
That doesn’t mean there can’t be a next chapter for many of these players, especially one former Pro Bowl wide receiver, who is already drawing plenty of interest around the league after raising a few eyebrows in camp.
ESPN’s David Newton shared on Friday on X that even after being cut by the Carolina Panthers, the team is among a handful of teams interested in securing receiver Hunter Renfrow to a deal.
“The #Panthers aren’t the only team interested in WR Hunter Renfrow, per league source. As Carolina GM Dan Morgan said today, it’s up to the former #Clemson star to decide where he wants to be. If it was the Panthers it would seem it would have happened quickly,” Newton posted on X.

Renfrow caught 103 passes for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021, but he caught just 61 passes in the two years after that as he saw his role gradually diminish before eventually missing the entirety of the 2024 season after being cut.
Renfrow also dealt with a serious bout of ulcerative colitis, but now that he is back at full strength, he is ready to get back to work and reportedly looked great in camp for the Panthers during training camp.
It was a bit surprising to see him not make the final 53-man roster despite an impressive camp, but now that the Panthers have traded Adam Thielen back to the Minnesota Vikings, there is a clear role available for a guy like Renfrow to take over slot duties for Bryce Young.
He’d be a perfect fit in Carolina, but as general manager, Dan Morgan said, it’s up to him since he is going to have plenty of suitors.
