The New England Patriots are turning over a new leaf as a franchise as they hired Mike Vrabel to be their new head coach.
The former linebacker checked all the boxes for a Patriots head coach as he won Super Bowls with the franchise during his playing days and brings championship experience and accountability to the sidelines.
Vrabel is widely considered one of the best motivational and dedicated coaches in the NFL due to his tough-love style and attention to detail.
He was successful as the head coach of the Tennessee Titans, and after spending time with the Cleveland Browns last season, he’ll likely be even better in his second stint leading a team.
Since coming back to New England, Vrabel has been able to recruit some of his former players, like Harold Landry III.
After signing with the Patriots, Landry explained what Vrabel means to him and his career.
“He’s played a big role in my development as a player and also as a person. … He knows my skill set, he knows how I operate, and I think throughout my career he and his staff have done a great job of putting me in positions to go out and be productive and help the team,” Landry said, via Carlos A. Listening to Landry, it’s clear he owes a lot to Vrabel for believing in him on and off the field.
The veteran is a solid pass rusher who might have more left in the tank that Vrabel can extract next season.
Though New England is still a few pieces away from being a real playoff contender, Vrabel seems like the right man to get it back on track.
