Flick vows to bring Barcelona back to their best after title hopes hit stumbling block

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick openly criticised his own team following Monday night’s 2-1 defeat away to Girona, admitting the Catalan side are struggling for form and confidence after conceding top spot in La Liga to rivals Real Madrid.

The German coach refused to blame officiating decisions and instead pointed directly at his side’s performance levels.

“I don’t want to talk about the referee. Everyone saw the match,” he said.

“We defended very poorly, especially in transition. We weren’t well-positioned and struggled to withstand Girona’s attacks. We needed more control and fewer mistakes. In the first half, we had more chances, but we have to show the hunger to win these matches.”

The defeat followed another disappointing result against Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey, increasing pressure on a team that had previously shown encouraging signs earlier in the campaign.

“After losing to Atletico it was important to win today, and everyone is disappointed,” he explained.

Despite the setback, Flick believes the team now has an opportunity to reset during a clear week on the training ground.

“We’re not doing well. We’re not in a good moment,” he admitted. “Now we have a week to work, and that’s what we’ll do. We’ll fight to come back in the coming weeks with a different mentality and a higher level. Train and play.”
