Falcons’ Undrafted Rookie Earns Roster Spot After Impressive Preseason

Final roster cuts can be a sad day for some NFL players.

However, it also creates some feel-good stories.

That was the case with the Atlanta Falcons and one of their undrafted free agents.

According to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, the Falcons intend to keep running back Nate Carter on their 53-man roster.

With lots of tough news today, the good news is a welcome change of pace. Undrafted free agent RB Nate Carter is set to make the Falcons’ initial 53-man roster alongside Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier, sources say,” Garafolo wrote on X.

The Falcons added the speedy player out of Michigan State after the 2025 NFL Draft.

He turned heads with his strong play in the preseason, headlined by a 43-yard touchdown run against the Tennessee Titans.

Atlanta parted with Jashaun Corbin and Carlos Washington Jr., so as a result, Carter will be third string behind Robinson and Allgeier.

Undrafted free agents have to work twice as hard as everybody else to make an NFL roster, so it’s always refreshing to see one get rewarded.

Of course, Robinson will handle the bulk of the workload, so barring an injury, Carter isn’t expected to get on the field much.

Yet, it’s never about where a player is taken in the draft as much as it is about everything he can do with the opportunity that’s given.

The Falcons are likely to stay active and make more moves as other players become available, but their final roster seems to be taking shape ahead of the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
