Analysis: Who will win the 2025/26 FA Cup?

Before the quarter-finals, Arsenal were favourites with bookmakers to win this season’s competition.

The record 14-time champions came through an early scare when they fell behind at Championship club Portsmouth in the third round, swiftly hitting back to win that game 4-1 before breezing past Wigan Athletic 4-0 at home in the fourth round and seeing off another third-tier team, Mansfield Town, 2-1 away in the fifth round.

Second-favourites Manchester City thrashed third-tier Exeter City 10-1 at home in the third round and fourth-tier visitors Salford City 2-0 in the fourth round, then came from behind to win 3-1 at Newcastle.

Liverpool and Chelsea are the second-most successful teams in the history of the competition still involved this time around, each triumphing eight times.

The Blues’ more favourable-looking tie means they have become third-favourites, having impressed in their initial two away ties under new manager Liam Rosenior by beating Championship opponents Charlton Athletic 5-1 in the Englishman’s first game in charge and hammering one of his former clubs, Hull City, 4-0 in the fourth round.

Chelsea then fell behind twice at Championship club Wrexham, recovering to win 4-2 after extra time.

The Reds are fourth-favourites to add another title, having pasted third-tier Barnsley 4-1 at home in the third round and Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0 at Anfield in their next tie, then beaten Wolves 3-1 away.

Leeds United and West Ham are considered dark horses by odds compilers. The outsiders are Southampton – winners at Fulham in the fourth round – and Vale, who belied their position at the bottom of League One to knock out Sunderland 1-0 at home.
