European indices close mostly lawyer. UK’s FTSE 100 falls

As London/European traders look for the exit for the trading week, the major European indices are closing mostly higher for the day, but marginally lower for the week. The UK FTSE 100 fell today after weaker retail sales.

A snapshot of the closing levels shows:

  • German DAX rose 299.01 points or 1.30% at 23350.56.
  • France’s CAC rose 36.22 points or 0.48% at 7589.67
  • UK’s FTSE 100 fell -17.15 points for -0.20% at 8774.66.
  • Spain’s Ibex rose 105.40 points or 0.77% at 13850.29.
  • Italy’s FTSE MIB rose 289.14 points or 0.74% at 39231.34.

For the trading week:

  • German DAX fell -0.70%
  • France’s CAC fell -1.24%
  • UK’s FTSE 100 fell -0.86%
  • Spain’s Ibex fell -0.43%
  • Italy’s FTSE MIB fell -0.53%

As European traders head for the exits, the US indices are mixed with the Dow higher while the S&P and NASDAQ indices are lower:

  • Dow industrial average +50.50 points or 0.12% at 42221.51.
  • S&P index -9.70 points or -0.16% at 5971.
  • NASDAQ index -83.33 points for -0.43% at 19462.01.

Going into the last few hours of trading for the three major indices, each are near unchanged for the week:

  • Dow industrial average +0.08%
  • S&P index -0.07%
  • NASDAQ index +0.31%
