D.J. Moore Gets Honest About New Potential Role

The Chicago Bears have a new head coach, as Ben Johnson was hired to take the offense to a new level.

That means bringing some trickery to the attack.

According to multiple reports, wide receiver D.J. Moore has done some work out of the backfield in training camp, and the Bears might deploy him as a hybrid weapon this season.

Asked about that, Moore admitted that though it could be a little intimidating, he’s looking forward to the challenge.

‘‘It’s daunting, but I get paid the big bucks to do it, so why not?’’ Moore said, via the Chicago Sun Times. ‘‘Just be an athlete at this point. Just do it all and just attack it.’’

The Bears aren’t stacked at running back, so giving Moore some touches will shake things up a little.

He’s fast, strong and athletic, and his ability to change direction could lead to explosive plays.

Even if they don’t use him as a running back often, just having him there will force opposing defenses to stay honest and keep guessing.

The Bears went to great lengths to improve their offensive line this offseason, and they should be able to run the football more efficiently.

That should open things up for second-year quarterback Caleb Williams, although reports from training camp haven’t been encouraging.

If things work out for Moore and he continues to embrace that hybrid role, perhaps the Bears might have their version of Deebo Samuel.
