Cunha & Sesko fire Manchester United into two-goal lead over Liverpool

Manchester United have flown into a two-goal lead over rivals Liverpool in a game that could secure their place in the Champions League next season.

The Red Devils needed just six minutes before going ahead against their age-old foes, with Matheus Cunha afforded two much time on the edge of the box.

The Brazilian had two attempts, with one being blocked by Virgil van Dijk but then a second one taking a deflection off Alexis Mac Allister to beat Freddie Woodman in goal.

But the misery did not stop there for Liverpool, who conceded another just 10 minutes later.

After some good work from Bruno Fernandes to play the ball across Benjamin Sesko, the rebound was picked up by Cunha, who recycled possession and delivered a deep cross to his captain.

A head across from goal was met by Woodman, who could also claw the ball off Sesko, which found its way into the back of the net.

Liverpool now have a mountain to climb if they are to salvage any points at Old Trafford.

Should Michael Carrick’s side hold on, they will confirm their place back at Europe’s top table next season, in the Champions League.
