The Chicago Bears‘ decision to take Colston Loveland with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft drew mixed reviews and some hot takes.
Fast forward to today, and it doesn’t look like a success so far.
However, Cole Kmet likes what he sees from his rookie teammate.
“I’m very impressed by Colston. His work ethic is awesome. Reminds me a lot of myself when I first came into the league. His demeanor at practice is off the charts. His IQ for the game, it’s climbing and climbing. I’m seeing all the good stuff. We got a lot of guys we gotta feed. Obviously, we’ve had some hiccups along the way in the offense. That doesn’t help him out, but the way he’s approaching it every day has been awesome. I know the production will come along with that at some point,” Kmet said.

However, Kmet is not a Pro Bowl talent, which is usually the expectation for a top-10 pick, so the comparison might not excite fans.
Loveland has missed time with an injury, and he hasn’t been much of a factor when he’s been on the field.
Kmet hasn’t done much better, and there should be little incentive for Chicago to keep giving him more snaps than his similar counterpart.
The Bears claimed that they drafted Loveland instead of Tyler Warren, who was the consensus TE1 in this class, because they thought he was a better fit for what they wanted to do.
That sparked speculation about whether head coach Ben Johnson would use him in the same way he used Sam LaPorta when he ran the Detroit Lions’ offense.
That hasn’t been the case thus far.
In the meantime, Warren looks like a superstar in the making for the Indianapolis Colts, who couldn’t be happier about the player that fell into their laps at No. 14 overall.
