Chris Simms Ranks RB Prospects in 2025 NFL Draft

Just about everyone seems to agree that Ashton Jeanty from Boise State University is the top running back prospect in this year’s NFL draft class.

But there doesn’t seem to be a clear consensus on how the other prospects at that position rank.

Chris Simms ranked the top five running backs who will go in this month’s draft, and he ranked them in three different tiers.

Jeanty is expected to go pretty high in the draft, and he is thought to have true star potential.

He ran for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns last season, and some have even compared him to LaDainian Tomlinson, the Pro Football Hall of Famer who once scored a beastly 28 rushing touchdowns in 2006 for the then-San Diego Chargers.

Omarion Hampton from the University of North Carolina has a little more size at six feet tall, and with 1,660 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns last season, he was named to the All-ACC first team.

The second tier, according to Simms, consists of starters who could become superstars, and it consists of RJ Harvey and Bhayshul Tuten.

At the University of Central Florida, Harvey ran for 1,577 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2024, while Tuten had 1,159 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns in 2024.

In Simms’ “home-run hitter” third tier is TreVeyon Henderson from Ohio State University, who posted 1,016 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns last season while helping the Buckeyes win the College Football Playoff National Championship.

In his freshman year at Ohio State, Henderson broke the school’s record for most touchdowns from scrimmage in a single season with 19.
