Back in the day, NFL teams could trust their kickers to get the job done.
Unless it was a 60-yarder or longer, they usually took care of business in the clutch.
However, that’s sometimes no longer the case.
That’s why the Pittsburgh Steelers have to feel so thankful for Chris Boswell.
As pointed out by Alex Kozora on X, the veteran joined elite company with his latest performance.
With two field goals in Week 1, he moved into third place for the best field goal percentage in NFL history.
At 88.1 percent, he trails only Harrison Butker (88.8 percent) and Justin Tucker (89.1 percent).

Tucker is unlikely to get another chance in the league, so Boswell has a chance to catch both of them at some point, even though players don’t usually get better as they advance in age.
After Boswell made a game-winning 60-yard field goal against the New York Jets, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin called him a “serial killer” and joked about his low heart rate.
That may go down as one of the greatest sports quotes of all time, but it’s also easy to understand where Tomlin is coming from.
Boswell is the type of player who always rises to the occasion when the stakes are higher.
Other NFL kickers miss routine kicks, and special team units block more attempts by the week, but the Steelers know they can always rely on Boswell to take care of business, regardless of the circumstance or the distance.
